Hi, my name is Jen Antley and I oversee the Toddler Room here at Calvary Chapel of Delta. I grew up in Jarrettsville, Maryland. Currently, I live just over the state line in Whiteford, Maryland, along with my husband, TJ, and daughter, Savannah. Our family has been fellowshipping at Calvary since the summer of 2010. Savannah enjoys being involved with the Senior High Youth Group here at Calvary. We are truly blessed to be part of such a loving church body.

A little about me…

I enjoy getting to know the Lord more and more each day. I love spending time with my family, no matter what the activity. I enjoy the outdoors and using the ability that the Lord has given us to take in all of the beauty of creation. I love gardening, especially with perennials. I have worked in the horticulture field for over 15 years. I am also an animal lover and am very grateful that the Lord created them for us! I also enjoy making things out of stained and fused glass.

A little of my story…

After 35 years of going my own way, being rebellious and not believing, I finally submitted and gave my life to Christ in August of 2010. The Lord used many people and circumstances to draw me to Himself. I was placed in a close working environment with a believer who was walking with the Lord. She did not have answers to many of my questions, but I knew there was something different about her life. I also believe that the Lord opened all of the doors for us to buy a home close to Calvary Chapel of Delta because I believe that He wanted to draw me to Calvary to hear His word taught line by line and verse by verse. The Lord keeps his promises: “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) In August of 2010, I surrendered to Christ and learn more of His truth every day.

I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to work with the toddlers. They are amazing little people. I genuinely feel as though all of the children are extended members of my family. They are all so wonderfully different! It is so exciting for me to have the opportunity to watch the little ones grow and learn. It is my hope that they all feel loved and comfortable in the toddler room. I hope to make going to church a great experience for them. I also want their parents to be confident when they place their child in the care of the toddler workers, knowing that the child is cared for by loving servants of Christ.

I am so joyful to be a part of the Children’s Ministry here at Calvary!

We moved from Waldorf, MD to Parkville, MD, in 2001, then to Delta in 2007. We are humbled that the Lord has entrusted us with five children, and truly believe that each child is a blessing. As ministry leaders of the nursery, we seek to create a safe and pleasant environment for the babies in our care.

About Us…

Kevin:
I grew up in Delta, Pennsylvania, on the family farm. Growing up, I spent more time on the soccer field than in church, but I came to Christ around my graduation from the local high school and have served in various ministries at Calvary Chapel of Delta, including children’s ministry.

Danielle:
I had a very different upbringing than Kevin. I was born in California, but after a couple moves ended up in Maryland with my family in 2001. I was homeschooled and brought up in church. I have served in various ministries at CC Delta and my previous home churches. Kevin is an accountant and I’m an RN. We met each other while both attending Calvary Chapel of Delta several years ago and were married on April 6, 2012.

We have been the Junior High Ministry Leaders since August 2012. Our vision for the Junior High ministry is to, first, help the kids grow in their relationships with the Lord, learn to practically serve Him and build relationships with each other. As a youth group, we have adopted the name “Team Thermostat” as a reminder that, as believers, we are to change the world around us and not be affected by the world like a thermometer. We meet every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., where they read through the Bible verse-by-verse and then discuss what is read. The group also meets up for events throughout the year for a chance to fellowship with each other.

About Us…

Hi, we’re Steve and Sylvia Adams and we facilitate the Love and Respect DVD series by Dr. and Mrs. Eggerich. We have been married 33 years and enjoy being able to share God’s purposes in a Biblical marriage relationship.

Although I (Steve) had attended church as a child and had a fear of God, I realized I knew very little about the Bible and God’s gift of salvation through Jesus’ work on the cross. So when a friend at work told me that Jesus was coming back and asked me if I was ready, I knew I wasn’t ready for His return. It was then that I surrendered my life to God and became a follower of Christ. Since that time, God has faithfully worked in my life, teaching me His ways and His great plan for my life.

I (Sylvia) received the Lord when I was 13 after hearing a portion of Billy Graham’s sermon on TV. At that time I felt lonely and I needed to have a friend. I went to bed and asked Jesus to be my Friend. His peace filled me. Since that time, Jesus has taught me His truth in His Word and that He is now more than a Friend but also my Savior and Lord.

About Me…

I was born and raised in Southern California, and have lived in Maryland since 2000. I have lived in Alaska, Maine, Northern & Southern California, and Florida due to my military service. My wife, Holly, and I have been married for 32 years and we have three children, ages 30, 27 and 23. I have always believed in God due to my religious, Catholic upbringing. It was during my high school years that I first began to understand God’s love for me, but it would not be until my early twenties that I would realize my need for a personal savior, which led me to trust in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Savior. I am convinced that faith in the finished work of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the only means by which man may be saved from his sins, and I find this fact often reinforced throughout God’s word, the Bible.

I have been attending Calvary Chapel of Delta for 10 years, and serve in the Recorded Word Ministry (making CDs). I also lead the Foundations of the Faith class, which is an ‘entry-level’ study course for new believers and for those who want to reinforce their knowledge of God through the Bible. I enjoy being with this study, as it is encouraging to me to share with others how God’s Word is as relevant today as it was when He first revealed it.

About Me…

I grew up in Flemington, New Jersey with my mom, dad and older sister, Susan. After graduating high school, I began studying Journalism at West Virginia University. My time there was marked by pain and confusion, as my mother had been diagnosed with colon cancer the summer before I began my college studies. By the time I left for school, we knew that the cancer had spread to her liver and the scenario was not good. Although I had attended church throughout my childhood, I had very little knowledge of God and lived a very selfish life with no thought of Him. Consequently, I had no peace, joy or stability in my life. My mother’s illness shook my world even further.

As a family, we decided that we needed to live closer together in order to help my mom through the chemo treatments. At this time, my sister lived in Maryland. My parents sold our home in New Jersey to move to Maryland, while I applied for a transfer to the University of Maryland to begin the spring semester of my sophomore year. Less than a week before the scheduled move, my mom died.

Following her death, and entering into a completely new environment, I plunged into a deep depression. Over time, though, the Lord began revealing Himself to me through various means and people in my life. The most significant of those means was the Word of God. As I began reading the Bible, I found comfort in the words, particularly in the Psalms. As I continued reading about the life, death, resurrection, message, and mission of Jesus Christ, I realized that I was a sinner in need of a Savior. Eventually, I surrendered my life to Him, and stand amazed at the depths of joy, peace, love, forgiveness, and hope I have experienced since that time.

My entire perspective changed. My ambitions for a lucrative career in advertising were replaced with a desire to serve the Lord. I have had the opportunity to work in “secular” environments among unbelievers, as well as within ministries focused on proclaiming the good news about Jesus. Both have provided opportunities to share my faith, and have brought blessings and challenges to strengthen me in my relationship with the Lord. I began working full-time here at Calvary Chapel of Delta in January 2004.

So, what do I actually do here? The simple answer is: I multi-task. Specifically, I take care of general administrative/office duties; coordinate the sponsor-side of “In Calvary’s Care;” maintain and, hopefully, improve the church website; manage the book store; promote events; etc.

One of the aspects of my job I enjoy the most is designing graphics for the website and creating flyers/brochures for events. I also love being involved with our ministry in the Dominican Republic. I usually travel to the DR with a team each year. Through these short-term mission trips, I have gained a better perspective on life, myself, my God, and the body of believers worldwide. It is such a joy to interact with the children and see the effects of our sponsorship program.

I also enjoy volunteering as a Sunday School teacher in the 8-9 class and helping with the kids’ worship time. Outside of church, I like to read, write (when inspiration strikes), play guitar, visit new places (i.e., explore God’s creation, preferably in warm weather), watch sports (especially the exploits of my nieces and nephews), enjoy some form of outdoor recreation, and tell long-winded stories.

About Me…

Hi, my name is Josh Harris. I am a member of the staff here at Calvary Chapel of Delta. I oversee the Cleaning, Worship and Senior High ministries here at Calvary Chapel besides other various staff responsibilities given to me throughout the week. I am here to serve the LORD by serving you.

I first came to Calvary Chapel in September of 2002. I had grown up in church, but lacked a vital relationship with the Living God, which was the root cause of the great wickedness that used to be my life. The love of Christ shining through the people in this church, the Word of God being clearly taught, and the conviction of the Holy Spirit began to transform my life. A few months later, I made a public profession of faith in Christ by being baptized, and began serving in the Worship Ministry, playing the drums. I began sensing God’s calling on my life to lead worship as I was asked to lead worship for the youth group and other small home Bible studies. I worked in new construction in the HVAC trade for five years and served in the cleaning ministry, attended several foreign and local mission trips, and took a non-credited Calvary Chapel Bible College correspondence course during that time. I was married on April 30, 2005 to my high-school sweetheart, Krista Ailes, who was also saved at Calvary Chapel (we came together). I was asked to come on staff in November of 2007 as the Worship Leader. Krista and I have since had two puppies (Misha & Onyx) and two sons (Judah & Evan) … we adopted the puppies!

I would like to briefly tell you a little bit about each of the ministries I am entrusted with, as well as my heart for those ministries.

CLEANING MINISTRY
This involves cleaning the entire building twice a week: Once in preparation for Wednesday evening and once in preparation for Sunday morning. I am so thankful to be involved in this ministry with the numerous, wonderful volunteers who lay down their lives to see to it that these things are taken care of each week. Their reward is truly in heaven. Our desire is to make this place feel like a home, as well as tidy up nicely to make a good first impression for our guests.

WORSHIP
Not a genre of music, but a lifestyle. Hopefully, this is not simply the “singing portion of the service,” but a continuation in our lives throughout the week. We believe worship ought to be spiritual, scriptural and sincere. We sing modern worship songs, as well as timeless hymns. Typically, our times of worship consist of about a half an hour of worship before the teaching and a closing song at the end of the Bible study. Our desire is that our hearts would be prepared for the Word and/or a response to the Word through times of surrender, prayer, adoration, and thanksgiving to God, and that Jesus Christ alone would be glorified and praised.

SENIOR HIGH
Meets weekly on Wednesday evenings for worship and the Word (worship with the congregation and a Bible study through the Word tailored to teens as far as application goes, but not watered down in content). Our goal is to work together with the Junior High ministry and be “on the same page” literally, so that when the Junior High students move up to Senior High, they pick up right where they left off and continue through the Word, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. It is our goal to thoroughly equip these students with as much of the truth of God’s Word as possible before they leave to start a career or studies at college, where all that we have worked so hard to teach them together will be challenged in a greater way than ever before.

We have a monthly recreational time together as a group called “THE EVENT.” We have simplified this to hanging out at the church playing basketball and we have gone as extravagant as taking a trip together to a theme park, and everything in between. This is also a great way to introduce newcomers, or unbelievers, to the Bible study group.

My heart and vision for this ministry is that the group of 10th to 12th graders would grow in their relationships with the LORD and with one another. Overarching this, however, is a burden to see these teens realize their potential; that they would be an example, not only to their peers and the generation to follow, but even to all the rest of the congregation, community, and the world around them; that they would be a generation given over completely to the Word, Work, and Will of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (See 1 Timothy 4:12-16.)

These kids are becoming the men and women they are going to be the rest of their lives. I want them to know that they don’t have to wait to be grown-ups to start serving the Lord with all that they are. I want to build upon the strong foundation you have already laid for them as parents. (There is no other foundation but Jesus Christ.) As they stay in His Word, they will become His disciples and they will KNOW (by experience) the truth; and the truth will set them free. It is my hope and prayer that they would see Jesus for who He is through the teaching of His word, which reveals His character and testifies of Him. Oh, that they would be so impacted by seeing Him that they would then in turn make an impact themselves on the world around them.

About Us…

Jason:
I grew up in Oklahoma, in the buckle of the “Bible belt.” I was raised in a broken home, but began going to church at the age of 7 with my mom and sister. I accepted Christ at a very early age, but like many who grow up in church, I drifted away from Christ and began to live life the way I wanted. I graduated high school and joined the U.S. Navy. At the age of 20, I married the most beautiful woman in the world. My faith was shaken soon after, due to the stillbirth of our first daughter. I spent years questioning “why” and doing my own thing, justifying my sin along the way. It wasn’t until another tragedy rocked our family—the death of our 7 year old son—that I recommitted my life to Christ. I realized that what I had before was religion, not a relationship with Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

MaryBeth:
I grew up with religion and have always believed in God, but I never knew that I could really have a personal connection with Him. After a tragic event occurred in my life, the connection was established. I failed to make a commitment to nurture the relationship though. I got by thinking life was okay until I experienced another heartbreak and realized just how desperately I needed God. In the dark days that followed, God has been faithful; ever present with indescribable peace, strength, understanding, love, and hope. I am thankful for the assurance that God gives us through every step of our lives, through both the good and the bad times.

COFFEE MINISTRY
The mission of the coffee ministry at Calvary Chapel of Delta is to provide complimentary hot beverages before and after services, encouraging fellowship in a comfortable environment.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRY
The mission of the hospitality ministry at Calvary Chapel of Delta is to provide meals for those within our fellowship who have welcomed a new baby or are experiencing a serious illness or injury, hospitalization or death in their immediate family. Occasionally, we have opportunities to serve at memorial service receptions at church and also to reach out with practical help to those in need within our community.

About Us…

Cheryl and I both grew up in Christian families, but would both admit that we did not know what it truly meant to have Jesus as Lord. We met in the Mojave Desert of California, where I was serving in the Army and Cheryl was a schoolteacher. We were married in 1994 and began our life of adventure, moving eight times to various military posts.

Our early marriage life was typical of many. We enjoyed the good times, but struggled to find contentment, joy, and peace as a couple. Looking back, I had tried just about everything to find satisfaction in life and none of it worked. After six years of marriage and the birth of our first son, we both began to individually seek out answers to our struggles. Jesus found us through the Bible book of Joel, where He uses the example of a great swarm of locusts that consume everything in their path:

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful… So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.”

Since then, the Lord has blessed us with two other children, we’ve retired from the Army, and settled down to live and serve in Bel Air, MD. Things aren’t perfect now. Life can be a real challenge, even for Christians. Raising three growing children gives us ample opportunity to be a part of God’s process of drawing people to him, dealing with sin, and demonstrating great love for us. We have learned that contentment and peace cannot be found in our situation, but only through our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Since surrendering our lives to the Lord in 2000, He has used us to serve in many different ways. We have been ushers, led prayer teams, printed bulletins, built websites, evangelized the lost, led worship, preached from the pulpit, visited the elderly, and organized home and office study groups. But at every church where we’ve served, the Lord has always brought us back to the Children’s Ministry.

A mentor once told me that if I really wanted to learn the Bible and connect with God, I should teach. He went on to say that if I could learn to explain God’s great truths in simple terms that children could understand, that it would also serve greatly in other aspects of ministry. The Lord has prepared me for leadership in the Children’s Ministry through training at Calvary Chapel’s Bible College and continuing study at Liberty Theological Seminary. But most significantly, He has prepared both me and Cheryl for this ministry through the experiences of life and parenthood.

It is our goal in the Children’s Ministry to come alongside parents and to help them in their first ministry of raising children. We desire that the teachers would grow and be filled with the Holy Spirit through their labor. And most importantly, we pray that the children in our care would discover how much their Father loves them, and experience the joy of a personal and intimate communion with Jesus Christ.
